Salutation – (SurySan a Namaskar)

Surya Namaskar or the Sun Salutation Pose (Salut to the San) is a dynamic practice of 12 poses that provides strength, flexibility and energy to the body.  

It affects the whole body from head to toe and has a big positive effect on every internal organ especially at the digestive system, respiratory and circulatory system.

 It can be performed as a worm up pose at the beginning of the practice. The Important thing that should not be ignored is of course breathing properly while performing the practice

It is a combination of physical practice and pranayama and that’s why it has a spiritual effect on the body and the mind as well.

 

A single round consists of two complete sequences: one for the right side of the body and the other for the left.

Practicing  Surya Namaskar symbolizes showing respect  and gratitude to the sun, as  the sun represents the basic and the most important source of energy for every living thing on this planet and the universe as well, and from this point on instigates our own light and consciousness.

Why should we practice Surya Namaskar?

Regular practice of Surya Namaskar offers many benefits for every part of the body.

– It purifies the blood and improves the blood circulation throughout the body, and from this point proper functioning of the intestine, the nerve center, and the endocrine system ( pituitary gland, thyroid gland, adrenal gland, testis, pancreas, parathyroid gland, ovary).

– It purifies the skin as well.

– It’s a powerful cardiovascular workout . 

Note:  People with cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure or stroke  (cerebrovascular accident (CVA),) should avoid practicing Surya Namaskar as it could have the opposite effect. Consult an experienced yoga teacher and a doctor as well.

– It calms the mind

– Improves the sense of balance and stability

– Improves the work of the respiratory system

– Increases  the level of the immune system.

– Increases the resistance of stress.

– Cures insomnia

– Increases the level of self-esteem

– Builds strength

– Maintains the stability of the spine, etc.

 

 

Surya Namaskar and Spirituality:

It will provide health benefits for individuals regardless of their level of interest or the level of beliefs about spirituality, but the fact that Yoga is a spiritual science or the science of the mind shouldn’t be ignored because it will reveal  the spiritual world in time.
